Day::17

YOU WERE ONCE SLAVES

Something just popped into my head. This isn't what came to me when i read the passage this morning, but i think it's good. So God cares a ton about orphans and widows and the poor and needy. I mean this whole passage is about how God doesn't want us to mistreat these people. And i just realized that over and over God says he is our father. He tells us he will protect us like a father, and he will love us like a daddy. So we don't have to be orphans. And also, over and over God calls us (the church) His Bride. He tells us that he will sacrifice for His bride. And he will love us like a husband. So we don't have to be widows.

Orphans and widows and slaves, no more.

    i think this is exactly what God wanted us to see from this. it's so fitting, God never gives us a command that he hasn't demonstrated, so it's natural that he fits these roles. but i missed that..
    i think i look to the Bible as a self-help book, a how to treat people guide, when it is really a depiction of God.
    Thank you so much for letting God speak to you! Because he spoke to me as a result :)

  2. It totally spoke to me, too, Michelle.

    I also thought if God is the Bridegroom who takes care of the orphans and widows, and we are the Bride...then doesn't our task make sense? Shouldn't we (as a church) be about our husband's business?
