Making God look GREAT
The phrase that stood out to me the most was this- "Now here is what i want to do: Build a temple in honor of God, my God..."
Two extremes are encompassed in this sentence. God's intimacy and God's GREATNESS. Solomon wanted to build something GREAT for his personal God. "God, my God."
Tonight I listened to a sermon by Francis Chan (a really cool pastor from CA). It was really good. And helpful. It reminded me that the main point of our lives is to make God look GREAT. And when we're not doing that, we're misrepresenting Him. And that's sin. So life really isn't about avoiding pain, or finding balance, it's about showing other people how GREAT God actually is. We're called to be God's image bearers on this earth...what an honor.
Here are some hard words from Francis-
"Circumstances can't stress you out. You do that to yourself. Anger and anxiety are both sins. And God will never let us be in a position where we don't have control over it. He'll never let us be tempted beyond what we can handle."
Do you think that's true? I'm not sure...it seems extreme.
So anyways, God wants us to know Him intimately. And when we know Him in that special, private way, we are motivated to share Him with others. Share his GREATNESS.
You can listen to this sermon here- http://www.cornerstonesimi.com/special/media_player.html. It's called "Motivating through grace."

Hi Michelle! Thanks for this. I am going to try to listen to the sermon TODAY. It sounds like a good one. I've good things of him, too. I'm not sure of a lot of what he says in that paragraph, but I want to hear it in context.
ReplyDeleteAlready, I'm wanting to twist his words around to say, "God will never let us be in a position where HE doesn't have control and we can't trust HIM." ???
